September: Harvest, Change, and the Revelation That Changed How I See My Calling

September might be my favorite month of the year.

Where I live in Temecula, California, September marks the beginning of the most intensely beautiful sunsets of the entire year. The skies can be absolutely breathtaking.

It also marks the beginning of the march toward the end of the year. We start thinking about the holidays. I start planning all of my homemade Christmas gifts and thinking about the things I want to make for the people I love.

And September is the month I get to celebrate two of my favorite men—my husband and my son, who were both born on the exact same day.

September also makes me think about harvest time.

Maybe it's because we live in wine country and are surrounded by vineyards. Maybe it's because biblical harvest is such a powerful image of God's faithfulness, provision, growth, and the results of what has been sown.

This year, though, harvest has made me think about something even deeper: Christian calling and purpose.

What Harvest Represents in the Kingdom of God

In the Kingdom, harvest represents so much.

It represents God's faithfulness and His ability to provide for us.
It represents the results of what we have sown.
It represents the enjoyment of the discipline of the season that came before.

Because before there can be a harvest, there has to be a planting.
There has to be tending.
There has to be waiting.
There has to be work.
And sometimes there has to be pruning.

I think we love talking about the harvest part. We don't always love talking about what has to happen before it.

The last few years have been hard ones for me.

God opened my eyes to things and people that needed to shift. I knew some of the people in my life needed to change. I knew some of the directions I was walking needed to change as well.

And while I am someone who actually loves change, I recognize that change can also be very hard.

Change can feel like loss.
It can feel like things are breaking.
It can feel like something has gone terribly wrong.

That's the human part of us.

But God doesn't view change the way we do.

God sees the result.
He sees where He is taking us, not just where we are standing right now.

And God loves us so much that He will walk us—sometimes willingly and sometimes unwillingly—into life's circumstances that will help produce the things in us that He already knows are there.

That's hard.

But I am learning to trust Him more.

What God Has Been Teaching Me About Christian Calling and Purpose

2026 has brought lots of changes for Kingdom Alliance.

Really amazing changes.

They have also been hard fought.

Through all of it, God has shown me so many things about myself and about Him.

When I started Kingdom Alliance in 2020, I was so focused on building this business—this marketplace ministry.

This is what I was called to do.

This is what I felt God was asking me to do and walking me into.

My calling. My purpose. My identity.

I was wrong.

Not about building Kingdom Alliance.

I absolutely believe God led me to build it.

I was wrong about calling it my calling.

There is a difference.

And understanding that difference has brought me an incredible amount of freedom.

Your Calling Is Not Your Job

I have spoken with thousands upon thousands of people over the years who have shared their calling with me.

Most of the time, their calling is attached to something they do.

A business.
A ministry.
A charity.
A career.
A church.
A book.
A coaching program.
A mission.

We say, "This is my calling."

And then, without realizing it, that calling can become part of our identity.

For some people, it can even become an idol.

We get so locked into the idea of our calling that we can lose sight of God's navigation and advancement.

What happens when God asks you to leave the thing you thought was your calling?
What happens when the business changes?
What happens when the ministry ends?
What happens when the opportunity disappears?
What happens when God says, We're going over here now?

If your identity has become attached to what you do, change can feel like losing yourself.

But what if your calling was never the thing in the first place?

My Calling Is Jesus

If there is one thing I'd like to share with you this month, it's this:

Yes, God cares about the little details of our lives.

Of course He does.

When you love someone, you care about their life—even the small things.

Does God care about what we do with our lives? Does He care about our work, businesses, ministries, charities, families, gifts and dreams?

YES!

But our calling isn't attached to the thing we do.

Our calling isn't our job.
It isn't our business.
It isn't our ministry.
It isn't the church we attend.
It isn't our title.
It isn't any of the things that, in our earthly minds, we have decided define our purpose.

Our calling is Jesus.

Our job is to bring Jesus into anything and everything we do.

That has been a BIG revelation for me.

The Apostle Paul wrote:

“And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus.”

Colossians 3:17

Whatever you do.

That changes the conversation, doesn't it?

God absolutely wants us to use our gifts, talents, desires, experiences and opportunities to glorify Him.

But He is our calling.

I believe He is much more concerned with how we represent Him than He is with what title is written underneath our name.

Finding Your Calling as a Christian Means Bringing Jesus Into Everything

My calling is Jesus.

When I am at the grocery store.
When I am on a walk.
When I am doing business—ANY business.
At my job.
When I am at home.
When I'm talking to my husband.
When I'm interacting with my children.
When I am happy.
When I am sad.
When I feel stressed.
When I feel incredible joy.

When I'm leading thousands of people and when I'm talking to one person who needs encouragement.

Jesus.

That's the calling.

And what a feeling of release that is.

Because suddenly, I don't have to be afraid that I am going to somehow miss my calling.

I don't have to cling desperately to a business, position, title, ministry, opportunity, or season because I've decided that thing represents God's purpose for my life.

I can let Him navigate.
I can let Him change the assignment.
I can let Him close doors.
I can let Him open new ones.
I can allow seasons to end.

And I can walk into new ones without believing that somehow I've lost my purpose.

Because my purpose goes with me.

Jesus goes with me.

Biblical Harvest Can Look Different Than You Expected

And that brings me back to harvest.

Sometimes I think we decide what our harvest is supposed to look like.

We plant something and then tell God exactly what we expect to grow.

But what if the harvest God has for you looks different than the one you imagined?

What if the greatest harvest from the last five years isn't the business you built, the money you made, the position you earned, or the recognition you received?

What if it's who you became?

What if the harvest is greater patience?
Greater wisdom?
More discernment?
A stronger marriage?
A deeper relationship with Jesus?
More courage?
More peace?
More willingness to follow God when you don't understand where He's taking you?

That is harvest too.

And maybe some of the things we thought were losses were actually part of producing it.

Christian Personal Growth Is About Becoming More Like Jesus

This revelation is deeply connected to why we do what we do at Kingdom Alliance.

We talk constantly about becoming who God designed you to be.

We believe in Christian personal growth, biblical leadership, discipleship, strong marriages, healthy relationships, stewardship, purpose, community, and spiritual growth.

But the goal isn't simply to become a better version of yourself.

The goal is Jesus.

Every academy, every conversation, every live call and every opportunity to grow should ultimately make us better representatives of Him.

Better leaders because of Jesus.
Better spouses because of Jesus.
Better parents because of Jesus.
Better business owners because of Jesus.
Better friends because of Jesus.

More loving.
More courageous.
More discerning.
More generous.
More peaceful.
More truthful.
More willing to serve.

That's the harvest I want.

What Are You Harvesting in This Season?

As we move into this beautiful harvest season, I want to challenge you to look back.

Maybe you are still in the planting season.
Maybe you're being pruned right now.
Maybe things feel like they're breaking and you can't yet see what God is doing.
Or maybe, finally, you can see the harvest.

Wherever you are, don't confuse your current assignment with your identity.

Jobs change.
Businesses change.
Ministries change.
Relationships change.
Seasons change.
Assignments change.

Jesus doesn't.

I don't know exactly what every future season of my life will look like. I don't know every direction God will take Kingdom Alliance. I don't know every assignment He will place in front of me.

And for the first time, I don't feel like I need to.

Because I know my calling.

My calling is Jesus.

In everything.
In every season.
In every room.
In every opportunity.

And wherever He decides to lead me next, that's where I want to go.

What a feeling of release.
